As I waded down the river, I saw it in the distance.
A land both promised and foretold
By a sage, sinner, a saint, a synecdoche, and a soliloquy
But in my hubris, I pricked myself, upon the riverbed.
Just a little thing, no more than a trickle
A trifle when the prize seemed so close
I never noticed the thorns in my haste.
Just one prick more, I reasoned,
soon the river was more me than it
And I myself was lost
under her gaze
she watched
She saw me
Her peace
Was all
I knew
